Estimating/Development Team Member

Position Overview:

Using your technical and management skills to organize the estimating activities of specific projects, including preconstruction. Having a creative problem-solving approach for this role is necessary.

This employee will be coordinating efforts with partners, subcontractors, and vendors to work through: establishing bids, project set ups, project biddings, and the buyout and handoff of each job. They will be responsible for compiling the complete estimate for specific projects by utilizing software provided by company.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the purchasing team in overcoming design and potential cost obstacles
  • Assess risks for projects and monitoring them as needed
  • Maintain relationships with subcontractors and vendors
  • Work alongside planning and estimation team to accomplish successful and cost-effective projects 
  • Understand contractual terms and conditions
  • Ensure all field staff are provided with proper documents and provide technical support as needed
  • Establish all bids
    • Review and analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documents
    • Effectively assemble accurate and organized estimates and proposals  
    • Attend all pre-construction and Action meetings
    • Identify all bid items, develop invitation to bid, and finalize the bid form
  • Project Set-up
    • Determine appropriate bid divisions/codes and provide clear quantity take offs
  • Project Bidding
    • Review all plans, specifications, and request any additional information 
    • Prepare schedule alerts on lead times versus start dates
    • Assemble proposal documents and review complete bid breakdown and proposal with PM/Purchasing team
  • Buyout and Handoff
    • Facilitate clear communication and assist the Project Manager for duration of project
    • Update, finalize, and organize all project information and scheduling

 

What Will Make You Successful?

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in construction with a general contractor
  • Acquired construction, engineering, or architectural degree is a plus
  • Knowledge in construction software
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Attention to detail and strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Proven track record of meeting deadlines
  • Strong understanding of spreadsheet design and experience with estimating software
  • Must have a clean driving record; no driving-related suspension, revocation or cancellation, no disqualifying offenses, no more than 2 moving violations and no reckless driving incidents
